Maitland City Council invites applications for community projects and celebration grants
Local community groups and organisations are encouraged to apply for funding through Maitland City Council’s Biannual Community Grants Program, which supports initiatives that strengthen community connections and contribute to a vibrant Maitland.
Grants of up to $6,000 for Community Projects and up to $4,000 for Community Celebrations are available through two funding streams. The program helps turn local ideas into action by funding projects that promote inclusion and provide support where it’s needed most.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says the program plays an important role in supporting the work of local community organisations.
“Our Biannual Community Grants Program is all about helping passionate locals bring great ideas to life – ideas that strengthen our community and make Maitland an even better place to live.”
“We’ve seen fantastic projects come to life through this program from creative workshops to health and wellbeing activities that bring people together, and community celebrations that recognise important cultural days and milestones,” Mayor Penfold said.
The Community Projects Grants stream supports initiatives that respond to local needs and deliver positive, measurable outcomes. This includes projects that promote social connection, build community capacity, increase participation in arts and culture, and improve access to recreational and wellbeing activities. Funding is available under three subcategories: Community Strengthening, Creative Community and Healthy Active Living.
The Community Celebrations Grants stream supports events and activities that bring people together, celebrate local identity and mark significant cultural or social milestones. Funding is available in two subcategories: Commemorative Days, such as ANZAC Day or Remembrance Day, and Recognised Days and Weeks, including Reconciliation Week and International Women’s Day.
“Whether it’s organising community workshops, hosting sports or recreational activities, supporting cultural celebrations, running commemorative events or delivering a local arts project, these grants enable people to make a meaningful impact in our community," Mayor Penfold said.
Applications are open from 4 August to 15 September 2025 for projects and events scheduled to take place before 30 June 2026. Full details including eligibility criteria and guidelines are available at mait.city/communitygrants.
