Young musicians to pop up in Rutherford Mall
Council, in collaboration with students and staff of Rutherford Technology High School, the National Music Academy, the Samaritans, and local businesses, is organising the event in response to requests for local performance opportunities.
Council’s Acting Manager Culture, Community and Recreation Mary Dallow, says, ‘Rutherford’s young people are the driving force of this project and it is wonderful that they want to do this for their community. The students participating are high calibre musicians and their music will brighten up the shopping experience and encourage people to linger’.
Students involved say that not only will this help them overcome stage fright, but that the Acoustic Youth Session will contribute to revitalising music in this part of town, and give local people a chance to both participate in and enjoy live music. Seating will be provided, and food and drinks are available in surrounding shops.
Rutherford Technology High School’s Student Support Officer Mary-Kate Ferguson says, ‘The school is delighted to work with Council to provide opportunities for our students to showcase their amazing talents and instil a sense of pride in their community’.
Local businesses have indicated that they too are looking forward to a lively and entertaining interlude in the lead up to Christmas, and they’re hoping that everyone will get behind this event to make it a great success.
So allow a bit of extra time for your shopping on Saturday 16 December and enjoy the sights and sounds of some great music at Rutherford Mall.
