Permit parking

There are four resident permit parking areas in Maitland:

  • Bonar Street, Maitland - both sides north of Ledsam Street.
  • Bourke Street, Maitland - both sides, between Olive Street and Ken Tubman Drive.
  • High Street, East Maitland - one side, opposite Maitland High School.
  • Swan Street, Morpeth - both sides between Tank and Northumberland Streets.

Only eligible residents within these areas can be issued with parking permits. Residents can apply by completing a Residential Parking Permit application.

Roads and Maritime Services have guidelines about the implementation and eligibility for residential permit parking.

    Parking rules

Here are some common parking restrictions and the rules for parking on roads.

    No parking

You must not stop for more than two minutes in a No Parking area. You must remain in or within three metres of the vehicle.

Hours of operations may apply to some signs. This means restrictions apply for those times only.

Mobility Parking Permit holders are allowed to park for up to five minutes.

No stopping signs and yellow lines

These signs mean that in the area in the direction of the arrow you must not stop your vehicle at any point on the road or kerb, unless there is a medical or other emergency.

Sometimes a no stopping area is indicated by a solid yellow edge line. Council is removing No Stopping signs and replacing them with yellow lines.

Hours of operation may apply to some signs. This means restrictions apply for those times only.

    Bus Zone

Bus Zone signs means that in the direction of the arrow or arrows you are not allowed to stop your vehicle unless you are driving a bus.

Hours of operation may apply to some signs. This means restrictions apply for those times only.
