Cr Mike Yarrington
Councillor Mike Yarrington, who owns and runs a trophy and promotions business in Maitland, has lived in the area for more than 20 years and currently resides in Thornton.
He says becoming a councillor was something he thought a lot about but he decided it was a natural progression from all the work he’d done with community groups and sporting clubs around the area.
‘I decided being a councillor was another step in the right direction for me. I’m very interested in seeing Maitland’s roads looked after, I want to work on parking options for Central Maitland and I want to see our infrastructure development keep pace with our growing population.’
Mike, who is a big Sydney Swans fan, also wants Council to focus on improving Maitland’s sports and recreation facilities and he would like young athletes to be supported through different grant opportunities.
He says he’ll base his success as a first term councillor on whether or not Maitland is in a better position in three years’ time than it is now.
Mike also loves being outdoors, working in his garden and he takes a lot of pride in his home brewing. He even took out the award for Maitland’s Best Home Brew in 2016 thanks to his tasty wheat beer.
