A great day and Knight in Maitland
I spoke last week about how excited I was for the Knights v Eels trial match at No. 1 Sportsground and I’m happy to report that I wasn’t disappointed on Saturday.
We had over 6,500 people come through the gates over the course of the event to catch some great rugby league and enjoy a wonderful evening out at the newly developed sportsground.
I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of the Knights players and coaches recently and it was also fantastic to see them out there playing. The skill level was immense and while the Eels got the better of them on the weekend, I’ve got a feeling the Knights will have a great year.
I’d also like to congratulate visitors to the event on their behaviour and commend Council and the Newcastle Knights, who worked so well together in organising this event.I look forward to seeing more wonderful sporting and community based celebrations take place at the facility in the future.
Parked to be opened in Thornton
Tomorrow I have the honour of attending the official opening of Wirraway Park in Thornton North. Quality recreation facilities are really appreciated by Maitland’s active population and I think this is the perfect location for a new park. Thornton North in particular is undergoing significant growth, with convenient access to schools and community facilities. I know residents will use this park a lot and I’m excited to take a look for myself.
The park will great for the growing community in the years to come. The Wirraway Defence Housing Australia estate will bring more than 500 new families to Maitland, 250 of which will be Defence families. DHA have a wonderful community vision for the estate, which is scheduled for completion in 2019.
