Community Strategic Plan Mailtand +10 on exhibition
A consultation draft of the revised Maitland +10, our community’s strategic plan, is now on public exhibition. The plan captures the community’s vision for the future of Maitland over the next ten years, along with information on how we will work together to get there.
Over 4,400 citizens actively participated in the review, which reflected a continued community focus on health, education, events and festivals, long term planning, heritage, balanced development, technology, local jobs and much more.
Council’s General Manager David Evans PSM says, ‘Over the last 18 months extensive community engagement has been undertaken to review the plan to ensure it reflects any changes in the community’s vision and goals since the last review in 2012. We are now checking back in with the community to see if we’ve got it right’.
As a result of the recent engagement, Council discovered a shift in community focus to citizens wanting local access to services, activities and facilities rather than travelling to these in neighbouring areas. It also confirmed a number of priority areas including roads and other infrastructure, access to local services, activities and facilities, maintaining rural identity and bringing businesses and jobs to the city.
‘Revising Maitland +10 is all about ensuring the community’s priorities for the focus of our city are captured. These priorities are supported by a number of different stakeholders and provide a guide for Council in the delivery of our services. I want to encourage anyone interested to review the plan and have their say’, said Mr Evans.
