'It's In The Bag' campaign underway at local libraries
Maitland City Library is proud to be taking part in Share the Dignity’s ‘It’s In the Bag’ Christmas campaign from 18 November to 2 December, with every library branch a registered collection point.
Share the Dignity is a women’s charity that ensures women across Australia have access to personal care products such as sanitary pads, toothpaste and hair shampoo. Founded two and a half years ago in Brisbane by Rochelle Courtenay to provide help to homeless women and those fleeing domestic violence, the charity has grown to incorporate many campaigns, all of them aimed at restoring dignity to women when they need it most.
It’s In The Bag encourages people to donate a handbag filled with personal care products to be distributed as a Christmas gift through Share the Dignity’s partner shelters and charitable organisations, where they are given to women and teenage girls experiencing or at risk of homelessness or domestic violence.
City Librarian, Keryl Collard says, ‘Scientific research has proven that giving is better than receiving. This Christmas we have the opportunity share the dignity by donating personal care products for distribution to women in need.’
Share the Dignity handbags can be donated at East Maitland Library on Garnett Road, Maitland Library on High Street, Rutherford Library on Arthur Street and Thornton Library on Taylor Avenue.
