Construction and renovation of food premises
Whether you want to upgrade or renovate an existing food premises or construct and fit out a new food premises the first step is to speak with Council’s Duty Planning Officer on 02 4934 9700 (available 8.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday at Council's administration building) to find out if you require a development application
If development consent is required, then you will need to lodge the appropriate application along with the applicable fee for Council to assess your proposal.

When it comes time to construct, fit out or renovate a food premises it needs to be carried out in accordance with:
- Australian Standard 4674 -2004 - Design, construction and fit out of food premises
- Australian New Zealand Food Standards Code and
- the Food Act 2003 and the Food Regulation 2015

Inspections
Inspections will be undertaken on risk basis in keeping with Council's Food Safety Policy.
If you are purchasing or taking over an existing premises, it is important that you request a copy of the most recent Food Business Inspection Report from the current owner. The report provides prospective buyers with information from our annual inspections and may include requirements relating to upgrades of building elements, fixtures or equipment.
Alternatively you can request a pre-purchase inspection by completing an application for Pre-purchase Inspection of Food Premises and paying the applicable fee. An Environmental Health Officer will contact you to arrange a suitable time for inspection.
