You can access particular information free of charge, online or by contacting Council.

Request access
Request for access to information are guided by the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) to ensure transparent access to information.
Requests are handled as informal for simple inquiries or formal for complex or sensitive information, providing a clear and fair process for the community.
What request do I choose?
There are two types of information requests - informal requests, which are requests for information not already published and raise no concerns to be kept confidential, and formal requests, which relate to third parties, are of significant public interest or contain a large volume of information that require a formal application.

Before you start!
We collect your personal information to process your GIPA request. It is managed under the Privacy & Personal Information Protection Act 1998. For more details, see Council’s Privacy Policy.
Step 1
Login or sign up to MyCouncil.
Step 2
Gather the necessary information to complete your request. Such as property information and details on the information you require to access.
Step 3
Complete the online application form by the link below (allow about 5 minutes). The team will assess your request. If processing requires more than 1 hour, payment may be required & the Customer Experience Team will be in contact for payment.

Complete the online application form via MyCouncil (allow about 5 minutes) including payment. If processing requires more than 1 hour, additional payment may be required & the Customer Experience Team will be in contact.
Alternatively, you can submit a formal request by downloading the Formal Access Request form, completing & returning it via email.
Disclosure log
The disclosure log records information about access applications made to Council that may be of interest to other members of the public. The disclosure log contains non-personal information only.

Political donations
Anyone making planning applications or submissions to Council are required to disclose any reportable political donations or gifts by completing a political disclosure form.
Council maintains a register of all disclosures of political donations.

Disclosures by Councillors and Designated Persons
As per Council’s Code of Conduct for Councillors, a councillor or designated person must prepare and submit written disclosures relating to interests as specified in schedule 1 of this code within three months after:
- becoming a councillor or designated person, and
- 30 June of each year, and
- the councillor or designated person becoming aware of an interest required to disclose under schedule 1 that has not been previously disclosed and lodged.

Council's use of information
Council has adopted a Copyright Policy which outlines Council’s commitment to copyright compliance and provides guidance to staff when using copyrighted materials both internally and externally to Council.
Public notification register
Section 59P of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998, requires that Council maintain a Public Notification Register. Under section 59N(2) and 59P(3) details of data breaches are published in this register when the Act requires a person affected by a data breach to be notified but is not reasonably practicable to notify them individually.
We are required to publish details of any data breaches on this page.
There are currently no data breaches to report.
Public Interest Disclosure
Maitland City Council supports transparency and integrity under the Public Interest Disclosures Act 1994 (PID Act). If you suspect serious wrongdoing, corruption, or misconduct within Council, you can make a Public Interest Disclosure (PID) to report your concerns confidentially and safely. The Council protects anyone who makes a PID from retaliation or unfair treatment.
Reporting a PID
To report a PID, please complete the Public Interest Disclosure Reporting Form and provide it to one of Maitland City Council’s Disclosure Officers as detailed in Annexure A of the Public Interest Disclosure Policy.
