Seniors

Council encourages active ageing and recognises and celebrates the many benefits that the ageing population contribute to the community.

Maitland’s population is ageing, reflective of the national trend, with the proportion of population aged 65 or over slightly increasing from 11.7% in 2006 to 14.3% in 2016. The proportion of the population classified as elderly, (75 or over ) is 6%, slightly lower than the NSW figure.

Council is currently developing an Active Ageing Plan which aims to meet the changing needs of the community and enables Council to better understand the issues of the ageing population in the Maitland. More details about this plan will be provided in the coming months.
