We’re committed to supporting young people in Maitland by providing opportunities to develop skills, explore interests and thrive in our community.
Young people (15–24 years) make up approx. 12.2% of Maitland’s population, in line with state and national trends. As our city grows, we’re focused on making Maitland a great place for young people to live, learn and connect.
Youth Week
Youth Week is an annual NSW-wide celebration held in April for young people aged 12 - 24 years. It’s an opportunity to share ideas, take action on important issues, and enjoy fun events and activities. Each year, a unique theme guides discussions and activities, encouraging young people to have a voice in their community.
In 2026, Youth Week celebrations ran from Thursday 16 April to Sunday 26 April, embracing the theme ‘Dream. Dare. Do.’ and celebrated the creativity, talent and contributions of young people in our community. The 2026 program featured:
- Live music performances
- Creative art experiences
- Digital and technology workshops
- Community days
- Wellbeing and personal development workshops
- Outdoor and nature activities
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Youth Week 2026 and helped make the program such a success.
