Young people

Youth

We’re committed to supporting young people in Maitland by providing opportunities to develop skills, explore interests and thrive in our community.

Young people (15–24 years) make up approx. 12.2% of Maitland’s population, in line with state and national trends. As our city grows, we’re focused on making Maitland a great place for young people to live, learn and connect.

Youth Week

Youth Week is an annual NSW-wide celebration held in April for young people aged 12–24 years. It’s an opportunity to share ideas, take action on important issues, and enjoy fun events and activities. Each year, a unique theme guides discussions and activities, encouraging young people to have a voice in their community.

Youth Week 2026

Running from Thursday 16 April to Sunday 26 April, Youth Week 2026 will embrace the theme 'Dream. Dare. Do.'

Maitland City Council will be developing a program of events for Youth Week 2026 that has been guided by feedback from our local youth community.

The full program will be available here in mid March, featuring a diverse range of events inspired by young people’s ideas and interests.
