Annual Community Grants

The Annual Community Grants Program provides financial support on yearly basis to local not-for-profit community groups that provide initiatives that benefit Maitland residents.

Applicants can apply for up to $5,000.

Grant categories include:

Community development

These projects should promote community participation and provide a place for people to connect and celebrate with one another.

Cultural and local studies

These projects should provide opportunities for residents to be involved in arts, culture and history activities.

Leisure and recreation

These projects should provide opportunities for residents to engage in recreational activities that help improve people’s health, fitness and welfare.

High Achievers Grants

The High Achievers Grant program helps Maitland residents who achieve excellence at a high level in Creative Arts or Sports.

The grant is open all year round for Maitland individuals, collectives, or teams who have been selected or nominated to participate at national or international level.

There is a maximum of two (2) grants per person for each financial year. Decisions on applications can take 6-8 weeks.

Grants categories include:

Creative Arts

  • Cultural Heritage - skilled crafts
  • Literature - poetry, storytelling, or writing
  • Performing arts - circus, drama, dance music
  • Visual arts - painting, photography, film, digital media.

Funding ranges from $450 to $750.

Sports

  • Sporting events or competitions
  • Recreational activities.

Funding ranges from $450 to $1,500.

Maitland Local Heritage Fund

The Maitland Local Heritage Fund provides small grants to help conserve heritage buildings and places across the City - both Aboriginal and European.

Applicants can apply for up to $2,000. Applications close Friday 30 June 2023 and works must be completed by 31 March 2024. 

Grants categories include:

Commercial projects

  • Repainting of facades
  • Minor restoration work
  • Replacing original signs or signwriting.

Residential projects

  • Repainting the house
  • Minor restoration work
  • Reinstating original fences or verandahs.

Commemorative and Recognised Days Grants

The Commemorative and Recognised Days Grants help coordinate activities and events in Maitland which celebrate special national or international days, weeks or months.

Two rounds are open each year in January and August. Applicants can apply for up to $3,000.

Grants categories include:

Commemorative Days

Ceremonies that acknowledge and commemorate the service of people who served Australia in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

Eg. ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day

Recognised Days and Weeks

Significant cultural and community initiatives which celebrate eligible National or International days or weeks.

Eg. International Women’s Day, National Sorry Day

Youth Week Grants

Youth Week Grants help groups involving young people to plan, develop and run activities and events during the national Youth Week, 20 April to 30 April, 2023.

Not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to work with young people and other groups to deliver Youth Week events. Applications are assessed by a program committee of young people in Maitland aged 12 to 25.

Applicants can apply for up to $1,000.

ClubGrants

ClubGrants are coordinated by registered clubs in NSW.

Funding is available to community groups, charities, not-for-profit organisations and sporting teams.

Applications open Friday 3 June, and close Friday 22 July 2022.

Grants can include programs that target:

  • Zero tolerance to domestic and family violence
  • Mental health initiatives and suicide prevention
  • Education programs encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness
  • Community engagement in art, culture, sport, recreation, and parenting skills
  • Social participation for older people, people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from multicultural and diverse communities.
